Citizenzhip In America

As children we don’t think much about being citizens of America. Of course we take advantages of the freedoms we have such as free speech and religion, but as kids we cannot do much. We can’t drive, or vote, we don’t even have jobs, so we do not realize how important we are. We are America’s future and now as teenagers we are slowly filling that position. Soon we will be able to drive, in a few years we can vote, and we can already start working. Very soon we will understand that we are true citizens. We will be the one’s broadcasting the news, we will be the firefighters and business people, our time is coming.

Being a citizen isn’t just using the rights we have like freedom of speech and religion. We also have duties and responsibilities. One of the duties we have is to obey the law. The law helps maintain order and to protect the health and safety of other citizens. Another duty is to pay taxes so the government can use that money to defend our nation. Some responsibilities we have are volunteering to help our community and voting.

Now, being seventeen I can somewhat comprehend what is happening in our world. I’m starting to understand all the disasters that are devastating our nation and who is running for what office and what their ideas for are our country or state. It is coming together now. I know that as I get older and I am able to vote, what seems to be a chaotic world will make sense and I can speak up and try to make a difference. It’s very important that we start sharing our thoughts now as teens because as adults we could all have different ideas and we need to know how to share them respectfully. We will soon be the decision makers; we will be the ones in charge.

We need to do our best now in school, at church, whatever we are involved in, we need to do our best and face failure as an opportunity to learn. The more we learn now the more ready we will be when it’s our time. Start being a leader, get involved, and understand what’s happening because we need to be prepared. We won’t be kids for long. We need to be ready for the role of Citizens in America.
