Words of Life

Life is confusing, people are constantly changing. One day you are best friends, the next, you hate each other’s guts, one day you fall in love, the next you hit reality. In the horse world there is no change, you are what you are, no outside influence can change your true nature. Maybe that has something to do with the whole no soul thing.

I suppose that’s the disadvantage to humans, we can be changed. Our minds are easily influenced by media, politics, religion, and the people around us. Now, yes, horses minds can be changed depending on other horses or human interaction, but it won’t change their heart. People become like the environment they put themselves in, or allow themselves to be in. We don’t necessarily purposely put ourselves in harmful positions, but it just seems to happen. We cannot predict the future, so we always have to watch our actions, because something we do now, may affect us tomorrow. That is why our words are so meaningful, along with our actions. Horses cannot speak, but their actions are worth a thousand words, one twitch of the ear can signal anger. Now, horses can get mad at each other, but their emotions quickly fade. Like all creatures, they don’t hold grudges. It’s too bad humans are different. If only we could forgive and forget as easily as animals, life would be so much better.

Back to our environment, now horses cannot chose their environment, but they can chose who they “hang out” with. My horse, Sly, is very smart in which he has chosen to hang out with one of the wisest mares in the heard. She is very good at finding the most nutritious grass, so by following her, he gets good grass! Sadly, humans can’t see when people have good or bad influences on them. Sometimes we sense it, but if we want the fit to be right, we will force it and ignore that little voice. It’s the negative people that you have to be aware of. Those who make you feel bad about yourself, or who just aren’t kind to others. Something I have been working on is standing up for everyone, even the people that everyone hates. Right now, it’s really hard, because sometimes you can’t find anything good about a person, but I have to remember that God loves everyone just as equally, and talking bad about them won’t change anything. Instead of speaking words of hate, that tear people apart I have been working on encouraging people and building them. In the horse world this isn’t necessary. Every horse has their place and personality that can’t be changed. If only we all were like the horses.
