What About This?

The teleological argument which states that every design had a designer, since the universe is a highly complex design, it had a designer (William L. Craig). Basically, something or someone had to cause the Big Bang, and set every element of it in order to create life as we know it. William Paley stated that every watch requires a watchmaker; you can’t just walk along in the woods and find a diamond-studded Rolex and assume that some random combination of natural forces caused that watch to be (Norman L. Geisler, Frank Turek, and David Limbaugh). That’s unreasonable. So how can you assume that random natural forces caused our universe to be? The Anthropic principle outlines the complexity of our universe. Though there are many factors that go into life, there are 122 defined constants. A few of them being: oxygen levels, the transparency of our atmosphere, the moon/earth gravitational interaction, the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, and the gravitational force.

More specifically oxygen levels in the atmosphere of earth is exactly 21% if it were greater fires would occur spontaneously, if it were less, we would suffocate. The transparency of our atmosphere allows enough solar radiation to reach the earth’s surface, if it were more transparent we would receive too much radiation. The moon/earth gravitational interaction is so exact that it if it were less the orbital changes would cause our climate would become instable, if it were greater, tidal effects on the ocean, atmosphere and rotational period would cause life to be impossible. The amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is another factor. It is adjusted just right to allow us to release it through respiration. If there were greater amounts of carbon dioxide a runaway greenhouse effect would take place, and we’d all burn up. If it were less, plants would not be able intake it through photosynthesis and release oxygen for us. The gravitational force is so specific that if it was altered 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000001 (10-37) percent our sun wouldn’t exist.
These factors cease to amaze me. Hugh Ross, an astrophysicist, calculated the probability that all these constants could exist in another planet. Let’s assume there are 1022 planets in the universe and there are only 1070 atoms in the entire universe. According to Ross, there is a one in 10138 chance (that’s practically zero) that any planet could have the life supporting conditions we have, unless there is an intelligent Designer behind it.

Even with all the logic and science in the world, it’s nearly impossible to prove who is correct then it comes to the beginning of time. Since none of us were there, we have to rely on who can come to a point of unreasonable doubt.

More than random combination of natural forces caused our great universe. More than a swirling dust of mathematical points or absolutely nothingness. An intelligent Designer, a loving merciful intelligent Designer with a plan for our universe caused it. His name: God.
